Does feeling hungry make you more irritable or does feeling sick and tired make it more likely you will feel sad? Does it matter what you believe about your body? How can awareness of your bodily sensations feed into your perceptions and choices? Evidence from psychology, neuroscience, and physiology reveals that every moment of life--including emotions, social perceptions, decision-making, and well-being--is shaped by the physical states of our bodies. I examine multiple levels of analysis in the body-to-mind path, integrating insights from experimental social psychology, psychophysiology, functional neuroimaging, interoceptive science, and development. Ultimately, I aim to illuminate the body's power to shape everyday experiences--be it feeling an emotion, forming your first impression of a stranger, or deciding what to eat tonight!
